LOS ANGELES, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- The bodies of two men who drowned at a California beach were recovered Wednesday after being spotted by surfers.
The Los Angeles Times said the men were among five people who went for a swim in the Pacific Ocean after midnight just north of Huntington Beach Pier.
Police said it appears the two men, who were in their 20s, may have gotten caught in a rip current and drowned.
A search team that included five divers, two helicopters, boats and a Coast Guard search vessel spent the night trying to find the victims.
The first body was located about 5:40 a.m., the newspaper said.
