CHICAGO -- An Illinois man faces 75 felony counts for alleged dogfighting after police recovered more than three dozen fighting dogs from his property.
A Cook County grand jury indicted Kevin Taylor of South Holland, Ill., with 37 counts of felony dogfighting, 37 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and one count of felony possession of a controlled substance, the Chicago Tribune said Wednesday.
Cook County Sheriff’s police last month found 36 pit bull-type dogs and one Caucasian Ovcharka on Taylor's property, the newspaper said.
The dogs allegedly were stacked inside a dark, sweltering, unventilated barn without food or water. Many of the animals were covered in filth and a number bore scars and unhealed wounds, the newspaper said.
