LOS ANGELES -- An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale centered northwest of Los Angeles early Thursday caused widespread shaking, but no damage was reported.
The quake struck just before 1 a.m. and was centered 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles in Chatsworth, KCBS-TV, Los Angeles reported.
Lt. V. Neglia of the Los Angeles Police Department told the broadcaster there had been no reports of injuries or damage, but the quake caused hundreds of security and vehicle alarms to go off.
There were also scattered reports of pictures falling from walls after an initial jolt and two small after shocks, the report said.
