Petting zoo pigs stolen, others stabbed
by UPI

SUN CITY, Fla. -- The owners of a Sun City, Fla., petting zoo said attackers broke into the facility, stole as many as five pigs and stabbed two others.

Cornelia Winn said Big Pig, a particularly docile 400-pound animal, was stabbed at least 10 times, the Tampa (Fla.) Tribune reported Monday.

Winn said two of Big Pig’s wounds were about 2 inches deep, and one was 7 or 8 inches long.

She said a second pig, a pregnant animal that is expected to go into labor at some point in the next month, was also stabbed. That pig sustained a 3-inch-deep gash that ran 10 inches long.

The petting zoo’s veterinarian told the Tribune both animals are expected to live. However, Winn said Big Pig has been lethargic since the attack.

"He’s not eating right now," Winn said. "For a pig not to eat, it’s a pretty big thing."

Deputies had no suspects Sunday, but Cynthia Newman, co-owner of the petting zoo, said fingerprints were lifted from the scene, the newspaper reported.
