Bush is digging us further into Iraq; we need Senator Smith’s promise to vote against funding for war, occupation
Bush is digging us further into Iraq and the people rejected that idea last November. Further polls show Oregonians oppose this war and occupation at about the same rate as Iraqis--between 65-75 percent.
After more than four years of avidly supporting this war (his first vote in favor was Oct 11, 2002), our Senator Gordon Smith gave an apparently heartfelt, impassioned speech against it on Dec 7, 2006--one month after his party was trounced on the issue.
We are concerned that his major speech lacked any policy promise. Please urge Senator Smith to vote against all funding for this war and occupation. There is enough funding in the pipeline now to wrap this up in a month and get everyone home.
3,000 Americans, 50,000 Iraqi--and more than $375 Billion--haven't we lost enough?
Congress cut off the funds for Vietnam, ending that war, and no one accused them of not supporting the troops.
Tell Smith we need his promise.
