Pacific Power fuels assistance program for deployed National Guard troops and families
by Bend Weekly News Sources

‘Oregon On Duty’ support offered to families while loved ones serve country

SALEM, Ore. – To make the holiday season a bit brighter for Oregon families, today Pacific Power joined with Gov. Ted Kulongoski and the Oregon National Guard to remind families of deployed National Guard troops that bill payment help is available if needed through the Oregon On Duty assistance program. To further ensure a warm winter, Pacific Power donated an additional $10,000 to its total $25,000 commitment to the assistance fund, which is administered by the Oregon National Guard.

Also today, as part of National Guard birthday celebrations in Salem, Pacific Power announced a corporate donation of several thousand dollars to pay to ship a generous donation of food and other gift items from Harry & David that is headed to deployed Oregon National Guard members.

Oregon On Duty, first launched by Pacific Power in 2003, provides bill payment assistance for eligible Pacific Power families having difficulty paying their electric bills as a result of having an immediate family member deployed overseas with the National Guard.

"As we enjoy the holiday season, I want to thank Pacific Power for their generous donation to ‘Oregon On Duty' and hope that more Oregonians will follow this generous example set by Pacific Power, and find a way to support our soldiers and their families," said Gov. Kulongoski.

"Gov. Kulongoski has been a strong example to us all with his leadership and compassion for those who serve," said Pat Reiten, Pacific Power president. "Many of our own employees and family members have served through military duty, and Pacific Power is proud to continue this family assistance program to support those serving our country by easing the hardship on families here at home."

Those seeking assistance through the Oregon National Guard Emergency Relief Fund should contact their service member's guard unit.
