Bend Fire & Rescue will conduct a live fire exercise drill at a residential house located at 61561 Sunny Breeze Lane in southwest Bend on Wednesday, November 15.
New firefighter/paramedic recruits from Bend and Redmond Fire & Rescue will use this opportunity to learn about fire behavior and fire dynamics, proper scene preservation for fire investigations, and effective firefighting techniques.
This exercise is part of a 10-week joint firefighter academy between Bend and Redmond Fire & Rescue. It is an inter-agency cooperative effort that, by combining resources, marks a milestone in Central Oregon. Sisters Fire Department officials have also expressed interest in participating in future academies.
“By combining the use of instructors, training materials, and equipment, it promotes the efficient use of these resources to the benefit of the taxpayers of all agencies involved,” said Deputy Fire Marshal Susie Loviso and Fire Inspector Jeff Bond in a public service announcement issued by Bend Fire & Rescue. “It also promotes teamwork and the use of common tactics where different jurisdictions often find themselves working together at emergency incidents,” they said.
