With only a few weeks to go, the Bend Christmas Parade committee is busy planning and coordinating the annual parade, to be held on Saturday, December 9th at noon in downtown Bend. Within the next few weeks, the grand marshal will be selected and additional details addressed.
“The 2006 Christmas parade committee proudly announces that Sing A Song of Christmas is the theme for this year's parade in the hope that music will enhance the spirit of the holiday season,” said Ernie Gilpin, co-chair of the event.
Applications will be accepted through the 20th of November.
There are five categories for those who would like to participate: Non-profit Youth Organizations; Color Guards; Individuals; Commercial and Other Clubs/Organizations. Participation ribbons are given to all who enter. Judging will take place at 10 a.m. on the day of the parade for those entries that would like to be included. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons are awarded in each of the eight award categories. These are the eight categories available: Most Outstanding (Non Commercial), Best Commercial -– Class I (fewer than 25 employees), Best Commercial -- Class II (more than 25 employees), Best entry featuring live Christmas music, Best entry by a youth organization, Best non-motorized entry, Entry with the best development of the theme, and Best equestrian/animal entry. All entries will be reviewed and must be approved by the Bend Christmas Parade Committee.
