Kris Arnold has been named the 2007 Volunteer of the Year for 106.7 KPOV, Bend Community Radio. The award was presented at the annual KPOV Volunteer meeting.
“We are a volunteer powered radio station,” said Mike Riley, president of the KPOV Board of Directors, “and we are honored to have someone of Kris’ caliber volunteering for the station. She is a ‘volunteer among volunteers’ helping to recruit and inspire others.”

Arnold, who moved to Bend in 2005 with her husband and two children, has a long history working in radio. She says, “My high school had a 136 watt radio station on the FM dial. They gave us a choice, take a language class or take the radio class with the intention of getting a radio show. Music was the only thing that kept me sane so I picked the radio class and went on to eventually run that radio station.” She went on to work for Atlantic Records in Los Angeles for many years before coming to Bend.
Once in Bend, Arnold quickly discovered KPOV and hosted an independent music show called ‘Contraband’ for a year-and-a-half. Fundraising chair Rick Miller noted that “Arnold continues to volunteer long hours at KPOV, even though she now works at a commercial radio station.” He added that “Kris is always ready to help out in any way she can, getting event sponsors, working on Freethinkers Ball, marketing, phone banking, movie nights and even recruiting other volunteers.”
Arnold says, “It is an honor to volunteer at a place that lets your creative spirit live. The diverse musical choices on KPOV are what appealed to me at first since music is pretty much my life; but then I discovered other programs like 'Democracy Now' and the deal was essentially sealed.”
Previous Volunteers of the Year winners are Jef Hinkle for 2005 and Tristan Reisfar for 2006.
