The Jefferson County School District is hosting a public meeting designed to provide information about Willow Creek Community High School, a new school slated to open in the 2007-2008 school year.
The meeting will be held Wednesday, January 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Commons of Jefferson County Middle School.
Willow Creek Community (WCC) High School is specifically designed to be a small school with a focus on:
• building strong positive relationships so we know our students’ needs and interest well
• making learning meaningful through internships in the community
• preparing for college and careers with help from advisors
WCC is designed after other successful small schools that are based upon researched best practices that have the following characteristics:
• personalized education: starting students at their academic level
• academic rigor: focus on quality not just finishing work
• family involvement
• learning through career internships at local businesses and agencies
• learning through student interests
• emphasis on reading, writing, and math at students’ level
• tutorial and small group work
• small class sizes: 15 to 1 student to teacher ratio
• credit and grading is by proficiency work and portfolios
• strong college readiness & career planning
• college classes taken with advisor support
