Deschutes County Sheriff offers Citizen’s Academy
by Bend Weekly News Sources

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring another Citizen’s Academy which will be held in Bend for this new session. This 10-week course is designed to give attendees a very in-depth look at the different divisions of the Sheriff’s Office, and educate the public about what your Sheriff’s Office does and is responsible for.

The Citizen’s Academy, free to participants, will be held Mar. 21-May 23, each Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

In addition to the classroom instruction, participants will go on patrol ride-alongs, and tour the 911 Center and Deschutes County Jail.

There are two optional Saturday sessions.  Participants can experience Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) during one session, and Range 3000 (an interactive “shoot/don’t shoot” training program) during the other optional session.

The Academy is scheduled each Wednesday night beginning March 21 and continuing through May 23.  Class times are 6-9 p.m.  Dinner will be provided each week, and the Citizen’s Academy is free to attend.

Applications must be received by March 9, and are available at the main Sheriff’s Office in Bend, 63333 West Highway 20 or may be downloaded here.  Additional information may be found here.

Applications should be aware of the following:

* You must be 18 years of age

* You must complete an application

* You are asked to commit to the 8 week series of classes

* Preference will be given to those who work or reside in Deschutes County

You will be subject to a criminal background check.
