During the week, there were eight reports of vehicle break-ins, with an estimated value of stolen items at $2,587. Of the eight reports, five vehicles were unlocked. There were also seven reports of car windows being broken by lava racks, with damage estimates totaling $2,350. DUII arrests totaled four, and there were two warrant arrests made.
9/24. A Bend man was stopped for not having license plates on his 1988 Dodge Dakota pickup. A routine check by officers revealed the driver had a suspended drivers license, and he was unable to provide proof of insurance. His vehicle was impounded and he was issued a citation.
9/25. A Bend woman reported that the entire door handle assembly was damaged when someone pried it off in the process of breaking into her vehicle while it was parked at Ernesto’s on NE 3rd Street. Nothing was stolen, but damage was estimated at $400.
9/25. A man reported his 1997 Subaru Legacy was stolen on NW Federal Avenue in Bend. The vehicle is silver, has a snowboard rack and a COCC student sticker.
9/25. A Bend man reported that three days earlier he loaned his GMC Jimmy sport utility vehicle to two men so they could run an errand. The men never returned, and the victim heard they left town.
9/25. A male resident of NE Red Oak Drive reported the theft of his Honda self-propelled lawn mower from his attached garage. The thief also took a can of gas.
9/25. A representative from Merrill Lynch on SW Bonnett Way reported an unknown suspect broke the lock of the mailbox and stole their mail.
9/25. A Bend woman reported that while her car was parked on Jacklight Lane someone broke the window and took her purse. The purse contained her drivers license and a credit card. Loss is estimated at $85 and damage at $200.
9/25. A Bend resident of Desert Willow Court reported someone entered his open garage and stole an Ipod and Ipod dash mount from his unlocked vehicle. Loss is estimated at $400.
9/26. A Bend man arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants admitted to drinking three beers at Sidelines and rated his level of drunkenness a 2 of 10. However, his blood alcohol level was .18, twice the legal limit, and his vehicle was impounded.
9/26. There were seven reports of criminal mischief when rocks were thrown through windshields and windows of vehicles. The incidents occurred on NE Scarlet Court, NE Sandalwood Drive, NE Connors, NE Yellow Ribbon, NE Locksley, Faith Stl., and SE Cleveland Ave. Damage is estimated at $2,350.
9/26. Officers responding to a location on NE 12th regarding a dispute between a man and his estranged girlfriend found the male had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear on a previous second-degree theft charge. He was arrested and taken to Deschutes County Jail.
9/28. A Bend woman reported the theft of her purse and $75 (in one dollar bills), along with her identification, credit cards, and miscellaneous papers. She apparently accepted a ride from a strange woman in her late 40s with brown hair, who was driving a faded red late-model Ford F150 pickup. When the driver stopped so the victim could buy a beer at Quickway Gas on Butler Market Road, the other woman drove off with her purse.
