Due to the high demand for tickets, Fulbright Specialist and Moroccan professor Dr. Jamal Koubali will offer a second community presentation of “Is Cross-Cultural Understanding Possible?” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, in Hitchcock Auditorium on the Central Oregon Community College (COCC) campus. Admission is $3; tickets will be available only at the door.
“I would like to explore with community members how mass media, especially newspapers, impact and form beliefs and opinions about the Muslim world and culture,” Koubali wrote in his application.
Koubali was selected by the COCC Foundation’s Nancy R. Chandler Visiting Scholar Program for a monthlong position as a Fulbright Visiting Specialist. He is one of approximately 50 professionals who have received grants this year from the Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program: Direct Access to the Muslim World. Koubali worked as an assistant professor of English for 13 years and presently serves as professor of linguistics and chair of the English Department at the university in Beni Mellal in Morocco.
Koubali’s visit is sponsored by the Nancy R. Chandler Visiting Scholar Program and COCC, with support from various community partners.
