Bend-La Pine Schools magnet school lottery deadline is Friday

BEND, Ore. -- Families interested in enrolling their children in one of Bend-La Pine Schools magnet programs are encouraged to contact the schools about visits and necessary information as the deadline for the enrollment lottery approaches. Applications are due to the school of choice by 4 p.m. on Friday, March 21. Applicants may apply for only one magnet program. Lottery results will be mailed on Thursday, April 10.
The magnet schools, Amity Creek at Thompson School, Highland at Kenwood School, Westside Village at Kingston School, and Juniper Technology Magnet at Juniper Elementary offer distinctive educational styles that provide alternatives to traditional elementary programs.
Enrollment in a magnet program is open to any resident of the district, with openings filled through a lottery. Parents can contact the schools for information and application forms. Forms are also available on the web at www.bend.k12.or.us
Westside Village Magnet School is a mixed-age, kindergarten through eighth grade school and is characterized by an open and inviting atmosphere where parents and community actively participate. Diverse learners prosper and grow within a fun and academic environment. The school is located in the Kingston School building, 1101 NW 12th Street, Bend, 383-6205.
Amity Creek Magnet School was the first magnet schools in the Bend-La Pine School District. It is organized around a child-initiated approach to learning that is rooted in the concept of authentic community in which children, parents and staff are equally valued and respected members, and in which individual differences are honored and respected. The school is located in the Thompson School building, 437 NW Wall Street, Bend, 383-6195.
Highland Magnet School emphasizes basic skills while enhancing student creativity through the Scottish Storyline Method. During specific times each day, basic skills and curriculum are integrated into a meaningful context, which mirrors real life by using the Storyline Method. Highland, a K-5 school, is located in the Kenwood School building, 701 NW Newport, Bend, 383-6220.
Juniper Magnet School, the district’s newest magnet school, uses technology to engage children in student centered, experiential, collaborative learning, and real-world experiences. Cooperative opportunities with experts, online collaborative projects, blogging and podcasting are some of the activities that contribute to an optimal learning environment for students. Juniper, a K-5 school, is located at Juniper Elementary School, 1300 NE Norton, Bend, 383-6165.
