Cast And Crew of 125 Take on Ambitious Production of L. Frank Baum’s Wonderful Land of Oz
REDMOND, Ore. — The award winning drama department of Redmond High School kicks off its spring season with a full production of the fantasy musical, The Wizard of Oz on Thursday, May 17th at 7:30 p.m.
The production features not only a strong core group of actors, but also a 17-piece orchestra, 40 elementary school students playing the munchkins, and Sandy - a terrier who earned the part of “Toto” in last month’s tryouts.
The community has stepped up to support this production with in-kind donations such as a small lift from Mel’s Tractors that will be used to lift the hot air balloon at the end of the show. “Support for this production has been unbelievable,” said director Phil Neely. “Not only is the community helping out with program advertising and in-kind assistance, but the parents have been there with us all along.”
Award winning actors are featured in this production. Monique Vieu, the Wicked Witch, and Chelsea Riley, chorus member and Munchkin wrangler, took first place honors for comic duo at the statewide drama competition in Salem last month; Gabe Overton, the Scarecrow, was a state qualifier, and Jenna Haugen, playing Dorothy, was a regional finalist in musical theater.
Admission for adults is $10 and for students $5. Families can purchase passes for $20 (two adults and three children). Revenue from ticket sales and program ad sales will go to the drama department to pay for this production as well as future shows.
Tickets will be available starting May 3rd during school hours at the RHS reception desk (cash or check only) and at the box office one hour prior to show times. Doors open one hour before performances with no reserved seating.
