Marijuana found in Christmas package during traffic stop
by Bend Weekly News Sources

A traffic stop by an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper Monday night south of Klamath Falls found an unusual wrapped Christmas present that turned out to be nearly two pounds of marijuana. A total of about three pounds of marijuana and four firearms were seized, and a Montana man and his son were arrested.

A trooper stopped a 2004 Cadillac for speeding 20 mph over the posted limit about ten miles south of Klamath Falls on Highway 97 shortly after 7:30 p.m., November 26, a news release stated.

During contact with the driver, 42-year old Jimmie Cumbee, and his son, 17, both from Highwood, Montana, Trooper Dave Chambers spotted a marijuana pipe. Questioning the father, Cumbee admitted he had marijuana in the car and surrendered the three pounds of marijuana, two of which were in a wrapped Christmas present, OSP reported.  Four firearms, including one loaded and concealed in a box next to the drivers’ seat, were seized.

Cumbee was taken into custody and lodged in the Klamath County Jail, troopers said. He is charged with possession, manufacturing, and delivery of a controlled substance in addition to carrying a concealed weapon.

The teenager was also arrested and taken to the Klamath County Juvenile Detention Center, OSP reported. Charges against the teen were not disclosed.

  • It doesn't suprise me that the kid was arrested. You can be arrested just for visiting house of someone who is a suspected drug user in Oregon.

  • This is outrageous. The father should have been the only one arrested. His car, his guns, his drugs etc... To arrest the "minor" and charge him too only shows the incompetence of the OSP Trooper.
