MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - A rug featuring a life-size portrait of a nude woman has been recovered after it was stolen from a McMinnville, Ore., college.
"The Sexy Sex: All Nude Revue Rug One," a self-portrait by Portland, Ore., artist Tamera Bremer, was found in a trash bin at an apartment complex near Linfield College, where it went missing Oct. 8 from a campus gallery, The (Portland) Oregonian reported Thursday.
The piece was had been dampened by rain, but Linfield Campus Safety Director Michael Dressel said it did not seem to be seriously damaged. He said a young man called the school to report finding the item in a dumpster.
"He saw it sticking out of a bag," Dressel said, adding that the man's story seemed genuine. "He knew about the rug, with all the coverage, and called the college."
Bremer said she was ecstatic to hear the rug had been found, as she had been preparing to start work on a replacement just as she heard the news.
"I was literally leaving the coffee shop to start work on the replacement when I got the call that she had been recovered," Bremer said.
The man who found the rug will collect a $500 reward from the school, Dressel said.
