8-month pregnant driver, passenger die in horrific crash near Banks
by Cheryl McDermott

Two people from Banks, Oregon, including an 8-month pregnant woman and the father of her unborn child, were killed in a horrific two-vehicle crash on icy Highway 6 Sunday night, police reported. Two children were also sent to the hospital, one with serious injuries.

An 8-month pregnant woman and the father of her unborn child were killed on icy Highway 6 near Banks. The woman's 4-year-old son was seriously injuried, and the man's 6-year-old nephew was taken to the hospital with a possible injury. The driver of the other vehicle was unharmed. - OSP photo.
According to an Oregon State Police (OSP) news release, Misty L. White, 28, was driving a 1989 Volvo 740 east on Highway 6 near milepost 50 when she lost control on the icy roadway just before 10:30 p.m., February 3. Her car hit the guardrail and crossed back into the oncoming lane of traffic where it collided with a 2007 Hyundai.

White, 8-months pregnant, and the right-front passenger and father of her unborn baby, 41-year old Martin J. Arthur, were pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

White’s four-year-old son, Connor White, was in a child safety seat in the right rear, and suffered serious injuries. He was flown by LifeFlight emergency medical helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Hospital (LEH).

Arthur’s six-year-old nephew, Tyler Arthur, was seated in the left rear and was wearing a safety belt. Troopers said he was transported by Metro West ambulance to LEM with a possible injury.

The Hyundai’s driver was identified as 19-year-old Matthew S. Olson of Forest Grove. He was not unharmed, OSP reported.

Troopers from the Banks Area Command office are continuing the investigation, which closed Highway 6 between Banks and Highway 26 for about four hours.

  • EDITOR'S UPDATE: TYLER ARTHUR's correct age is 16-years-old, not 6-years-old. Information received from the original OSP news release was inaccurate. Tyler Arthur, according to relatives, is a student at Banks High School and reportedly was released from the hospital on Monday, February 4.
