by Cheryl McDermott

GRESHAM, Ore. -- A 28-year old unemployed Gresham man was arrested Thursday morning after a special investigations unit raided his rented home and discovered a massive and sophisticated marijuana growing operation.

Members of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Special Investigations Unit (SIU) discovered over 400 pot plants in various stages of growth and $2,000 in cash in five rooms of the residence of Huy Dang Truong, a news release stated. The raid was the culmination of a three-month investigation.

According to SIU members, the northwest Gresham, Oregon, home that Truong rented for $2,800 per month had been completely altered to manufacture marijuana, including the living room and a partial basement. A detailed and extensive feeding, watering and power system was in use at 1751 NW 13th Street.

Investigators said that the operation and marijuana recovered was valued between $350,000-$500,000, and that the “grow” could easily have produced from 100-200 pounds of pot every three or four months. With a pound of pot valued at $3,000-3,500 in street value, the operation could turn out between $900,000 and almost $2,800,000 worth of marijuana in a year’s time.

Truong was taken into custody and lodged in the Multnomah County Jail. He faces charges of possession, manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, SIU reported.
