Traffic stop intercepts drugs destined for sale at OSU campus
by Cheryl McDermott

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A traffic stop for a speeding violation on the Oregon State University campus early Sunday morning led to one arrest and one citation, the seizure of more than $2,000 cash, over a pound of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms – drugs troopers believe would have been sold on the campus had they not been intercepted.

Oregon State Police (OSP) Trooper Jeff Smith stopped a car driven by Sarek T. Vincze, 20, of Corvallis, about 3 a.m., March 9, for traveling 30-mph in a 15-mph zone, a news release stated.

Vincze and his passenger, 21-year old Sean Nada of Beaverton, consented to a search of the vehicle. Neither man is a student at OSU, troopers said.

A search turned up 1.2 pounds of pot, 22 grams of mushrooms, $2,010 cash belonging to Nada, packaging materials and other evidence, OSP said.

Nada was arrested and lodged in the Benton County Correctional Facility. He is charged with possession and distribution of a controlled substance. Vincze was cited and released for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

"There is no doubt that the marijuana and illegal mushrooms were brought to the OSU campus to be sold and distributed," said OSP Lt. Jeff Lanz. "Trooper Smith looked beyond the ticket and it paid off, preventing the drugs from making it into the hands of some of these students."
