Oregon AFL-CIO endorses Kroger for AG
by Bend Weekly News Sources

Oregon Attorney General candidate John Kroger today announced the endorsement of the Oregon AFL-CIO.  The endorsement makes Kroger the only statewide candidate in a contested primary to receive the endorsements of Oregon's largest labor organizations - AFL-CIO, SEIU Locals 503 and 49 and the Oregon Education Association.

"John Kroger has fought against corrupt corporations like Enron whose leadership lined their pockets while robbing hardworking Americans of their pensions," said Oregon AFL-CIO President Tom Chamberlain. "He will bring that same tenacity and sense of fairness to the Oregon Attorney General's office."

The Oregon AFL-CIO is a federation of unions dedicated to making jobs better and improving the quality of life for working families in Oregon.  It represents nearly 200,000 working men and women in Oregon in a diverse range of fields including steelworkers, nurses, firefighters, electricians, truck drivers, and teachers.

Labor Commissioner Dan Gardner, IBEW Local 48 and Carpenters Local Unions 247, 711, 1388, 2416, 2154 and 1065 are also supporting Kroger, an award-winning Lewis & Clark Law School professor and a former federal prosecutor.  Kroger has received nearly every labor endorsement in the Attorney General's race to date.

"John Kroger is a bright new voice for Oregon workers," said Clif Davis, Business Manager and Financial Secretary with IBEW Local 48. "We're supporting John because we know he'll be a proactive voice for our members and for every citizen in the state. John is the experienced Attorney General we need to move Oregon forward."

"I am deeply honored to have the endorsement of the Oregon AFL-CIO," commented Kroger.  "Together the Oregon AFL-CIO and I will fight to protect consumers and workers in Oregon."

Once elected, Kroger plans to combat the state's meth crisis by pushing for tougher enforcement and a new plan for drug treatment, hold polluters accountable by imposing fines and jail time and fight for the civil rights of Oregonians.

Kroger is also endorsed by Gov. John Kitzhaber, the Oregon State Police Officers' Association, the Portland Police Association, the Sierra Club, 17 District Attorneys, the Oregon Small Business for Responsible Leadership, Veterans in Action, Mayors Kitty Piercy of Eugene, Bruce Abernethy of Bend, and Phillip Houk of Pendleton and City Commissioners Erik Sten, Dan Saltzman and Randy Leonard.
