HILLSBORO, Ore. – A 22-year old Hillsboro man was arrested on Tuesday night after neighbors alerted police to the alleged abuse of his pit bull, whom he reportedly kicked and threw against a backyard shed, horrifically injuring the animal’s tail and head.

Blood-smeared Brandon Matthew Nagy of 860 NE Sunrise Lane was taken into custody at 9:20 p.m., April 1, after first telling Hillsboro Police officers that he didn’t own a dog, but then later conceding ownership.

The animal, a pit pull named Kahula, was found in the garage, injured.

Nagy was lodged in the Washington County Jail in lieu of $11,000 bail, and was charged with second-degree animal abuse and for possession of a firearm by a felon. An AK-47 assault rifle was discovered under Nagy’s bed, and he had a prior felony conviction for drug charges, a news release stated.

Police transported the injured dog to Dove Lewis Pet Hospital.
