PORTLAND, Ore. – The Obama campaign will launch an ambitious new field program across Oregon this week designed to empower volunteers to support the campaign with innovative internet tools. The campaign will identify and train Obama Oregon Community Organizers (Obama OCOs) in an effort to assist supporters in reaching out to their friends and neighbors to talk about Senator Obama’s commitment to bringing change we can believe in to Washington.
Today, the campaign is unveiling a group of innovative internet tools that can be accessed through the new Obama Oregon Community Organizer website. These online tools will allow Obama OCOs to empower volunteers in their own communities to phone bank and canvass, and even manage data. Read below about some of the tools that the campaign will make available to the Obama OCOs:
- The ‘Virtual Phone Bank’ will enable volunteers to make phone calls to Oregonians from wherever they desire, while avoiding duplicate calls. Volunteers will even be able to print their own call lists of prospective voters and host phone banks in their own homes.
- Using ‘Turf Cutter,’ Obama OCOs will be able to create maps of targeted households for our volunteers to canvass for change in their own communities.
- Obama OCOs can even maximize their impact for the Obama campaign by learning to enter and manage data about the voters they have contacted across the state. Experienced OCOs can then learn to create their own lists of targeted voters.

The Obama OCO program will allow the campaign to build on the deep grassroots support and enthusiasm for Senator Obama in Oregon. Just this past weekend, hundreds of Obama volunteers knocked on thousands of doors and made thousands of phonecalls, registering thousands of voters in communities across the state. Also this past weekend, the campaign opened offices in Salem and Medford. Oregon for Obama will be opening their 8th office tonight in Bend.
“Oregonians have a historic opportunity to send a message that they are ready choose the future over the past and tell Washington that it’s time for a change,” said Rob Hill, Oregon State Director for Obama for America. “The strength of this campaign is based on the talent and energy of volunteers and supporters who will build a grassroots movement for change in communities large and small across Oregon.”
