Oregon police seek Lane County elk poachers
by Bend Weekly News Sources

LANE COUNTY, Ore. – Police are asking the public’s help to solve two incidents of elk poaching that took place in late April and early May in Lane County, Oregon.

Three elk have been shot and left to waste in Lane County, Oregon in recent weeks - OSP photo

Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division said a dead cow elk was found on Seneca Jones Timber Company property south of Oakridge, Oregon in the Simpson Creek drainage. The elk was shot once, and its carcass left to waste.

OSP Trooper Marshall Maher said it appeared the poacher “had no intention of taking any of the meat.” Persons with information about the Oakridge-area poaching are asked to call police at 541.782.4374.

The second incident involved the shooting and wasting of two more cow elks, an adult and a yearling. They were found in the Big River drainage south of Cottage Grove, OSP said.

Anyone with information regarding the Cottage Grove area investigation is asked to contact Trooper Martin Maher at the Springfield area command office by calling 541.726.2536.
