Independent Review Requested in Kim Family Search Efforts
by Bend Weekly News Sources

On Friday, the Josephine County Sheriff's Office formally requested a review of their efforts during the Kim family search.  The request was made to the association's Search and Rescue Advisory Committee Chairman, Sheriff Tim Evinger.

The Josephine County Sheriff's Office requested a review of their efforts during the Kim family search.  James Kim, 35, died of exposure with hypothermia.
San Francisco residents James Kim, his wife Kati, and their young children, 4-year-old Penelope and 7-month-old Sabine went missing over the Thanksgiving weekend deep in the national forest near the Oregon coast.  Kati Kim and the children were rescued December 4, but James Kim died of exposure with hypothermia.

The request cited the significance of the review stating:

"We trust in the Advisory Council's long standing experience in local and rural searches; therefore, feel this independent review is of the utmost importance."

The Committee, which will be looking into the facts surrounding the search at the local level, will be working collectively with the Oregon Office of Emergency Management Director, Ken Murphy who is leading the state-level after action report.

Search experts and investigators hope to combine their findings in an effort to learn what was done well and what could be improved in future searches.
