HILLSBORO, Ore. – Although an investigation is continuing and no citations have been issued, police say that dense fog and limited visibility may have factored into the death of a 46-year old pedestrian who died after being struck by an SUV this morning.
Names of the deceased man and the male driver, 50, are being withheld pending proper notifications, a Hillsboro Police Department news release stated.
The accident occurred about 7:20 a.m. in the 20600 block of Quatama Road approaching Sunbird Terrace. The driver of the 2003 Honda Pilot was traveling east about 35 mph and didn’t see the pedestrian who was crossing mid-block, police reported.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Witnesses reported no erratic, unsafe speed or reckless driving and initial reports indicate that no drugs or alcohol were involved, police said.
Quatama Road was closed for about five hours, the release stated
