BROWNSVILLE, Ore. – A 76-year old Medford man was seriously injured and flown by helicopter to the hospital after his motorcycle collided with a SUV on Interstate-5 south of the Brownsville interchange on Sunday afternoon.
Oregon State Police (OSP) said Richard R. Graybeal was traveling in the right lane near milepost 216 on his 1996 Honda Goldwing when the SUV, following behind, began to pass him. Graybeal also began to change lanes and the motorcycle clipped the right rear quarter panel of a Jeep driven by Thomas C. Olson, 52, of Redding, California.
The crash occurred about 12:35 p.m., troopers said. Graybeal and the motorcycle fell on the freeway and skidded 300 feet before coming to a stop.
Although he wore a helmet, Graybeal was seriously injured and flown by REACH air ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield.
Olson and his passengers, boys aged 14 and 15, were not injured, OSP said.
