Umatilla Indian Res. receives $2 million EDA investment
by Bend Weekly News Sources

U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez on Wednesday announced a $2 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) investment to the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Pendleton, Oregon.  The investment will help build water, sewer, utility and road infrastructure to serve the Coyote Business Park.  The investment is expected to create 200 jobs and generate $10 million in private investment.

“President Bush and I are committed to partnering with communities to promote innovation and competitiveness.  Through economic development grants like these, the Commerce Department will continue to encourage investments in local areas, grow the economy and create jobs,” said Gutierrez.

The Coyote Business Park is a substantial economic development project for the Confederated Tribes and the region, and I want to thank EDA for helping to make it a reality,” Congressman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) said.  “This federal investment and the project it supports represent an exciting opportunity that will create hundreds of good-paying jobs for Tribal and non-Tribal members throughout Northeast Oregon.”

EDA serves as a venture capital resource to meet the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the United States.  EDA’s mission is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.

Additional information on how EDA investments are helping distressed communities create a positive and sustainable economic future can be accessed at:  http://www.eda.gov.
