A man accused of stealing a pickup and a boat in Clackamas last week, eluding police in a high-speed chase recorded on the police cruiser’s video, then fleeing on foot has been arrested for those crimes, in addition to drug-related charges.
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Brian Brooks, 43, allegedly stole a boat and trailer about 3:30 a.m. April 1 after hooking the trailer to a stolen pickup and driving away from the owners’ apartment complex at 9900 SW Lawnfield in Clackamas. The owner, Ryan Stell, reported seeing the theft and watching the suspect drive away without headlights, throwing beer cans from the vehicle as they left.

A video recorded on the pursuing police cruiser captured the entire chase, including when the boat and trailer disconnected from the fleeing pickup truck. Brooks hopped out of the stolen truck on 82nd Avenue, jumped over the guardrail, and ran into some bushes -- leaving behind his pregnant girlfriend and passenger, Crystal Coburn, 24.
Coburn was arrested for conspiracy to commit unauthorized use of a vehicle, and despite a thorough search deputies and police officers were unable to locate Brooks, said Detective Jim Strovink.
The suspect remained at large until Tuesday when West Linn Police officers received an anonymous tip that he was sleeping in a friend’s apartment in West Linn.
Brooks was taken into custody and lodged in the Clackamas County Jail where he faces charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, and unlawful delivery and possession of methamphetamine.
