A woman who apparently intentionally jumped into the Willamette River from the Marion Street Bridge in downtown Salem last night was rescued after being in the water for 45 minutes, authorities said.
Drivers crossing the bridge saw the woman jump and called 911 about 10:20 p.m., Saturday, April 14.
Salem Fire Department’s water rescue team responded, launching their boat and searched for the woman in the river and along the riverbanks. After about 45 minutes, rescuers found the woman and safely pulled her from the water.
According to a news release, the woman was found about 300-400 yards downstream from the bridge, and was transported to Salem Hospital.
