Oregon statewide average gas prices set a new record high today at $3.123 per gallon, according to AAA Public Affairs Director Elliott Eki.
The previous record of $3.111 was set on May 28, 2006.
All major metro areas in Oregon have surpassed previous records, set in late May or early June of last year, Eki said.
At $3.174, Eugene-Springfield surpassed their previous record of $3.164.
Portland has topped their old record by one and one-half cents, reaching $3.112.
The Medford-Ashland area has set a new record daily since Friday, and the average now stands at $3.194.
Salem is also breaking records daily. On Thursday the area’s price rose above the existing record of $3.085, and today it is $3.111.
While Oregon average gas prices cause shock at the gas pumps, the state is still far behind San Francisco’s average of $3.47 per gallon.
