Reward offered for man sought in vicious axe-attack
by Cheryl McDermott

Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputies have released a sketch of a man wanted in connection with a vicious axe-attack on a man who had earlier broken up a fight between the suspect and another man in a Portland tavern.

The suspect is described as a light skinned Hispanic male, about 25-years old, 5-feet 6-inches tall, balding, with a facial goatee and extensive tattooing on both forearms.  He was last seen running from the area.

Bobby Burns of Clackamas was critically injured with severe head wounds that police described as “devastating” about 2:30 a.m., June 6.  He was found in the Winco Parking lot on SE 82nd Avenue in Portland, very near the Harmony Inn, the tavern where the altercation had taken place about a half hour earlier.

Deputies had responded to the tavern in response to a report of a fight between two Hispanic males.  Witnesses said the victim of the axe attack had intervened in the physical altercation, and that one of the two men involved in the fight followed Burns as he walked away from the tavern and attacked him.

Forensic sketch artist Joyce Nagy was able to produce the composite sketch of the suspect with the help of a witness.

A Crime Stoppers reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect, and anyone with information is asked to contact lead investigator Detective Steve Hyson at 503.723.4982.
