Grants Pass family members get 10 years for marijuana grows
by Bend Weekly News Sources

MEDFORD, Ore. – Late last week, brothers Jeffrey Allen Davis, 54, and Richard Orlend Davis, 48, were sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Ann Aiken to ten years in federal prison for manufacturing marijuana and possession of a destructive device. Cynthia Jean Davis, 49, wife of Jeffrey Allen Davis, was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for conspiracy to manufacture marijuana.

This case resulted from an October 22, 2004 search by the Josephine Interagency Narcotics Team (JOINT) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) at the Davis’ residence, 2010 Stewart Road, Grants Pass, Oregon. Officers discovered a sophisticated indoor marijuana grow containing over 3,200 marijuana plants, 97 grow lights and ballasts, and 60 pounds of processed marijuana. A loaded shotgun was found on a shelf near the entrance. Officers also seized $56,939 in cash and 67 firearms, including a Street Sweeper shotgun, a 50-caliber machine gun, and a Thompson sub-machine gun. Richard Davis arrived at the residence during the search. Officers searched his pickup truck, seizing $4,840 in cash, a loaded .22 Derringer revolver, and a loaded .44 revolver.

Officers then searched Richard Davis’ residence, 10517 Lower River Road in Grants Pass, where they discovered an underground marijuana grow and seized 153 marijuana plants, 13 grow lights and ballasts, $8,919 in cash, and 35 firearms, including another Street Sweeper shotgun. Officers also searched a muffler shop next door at 10511 Lower River Road, owned by Jeff Davis. They discovered more marijuana growing in the shop and in an underground grow room, seizing 151 marijuana plants, 12 grow lights and ballasts, and a loaded .22 caliber rifle next to the door leading to the grow rooms.

JOINT Commander Ken Selig noted that this was among the largest indoor marijuana growing operations ever seized in Josephine County.

The Davises also forfeited five parcels of real property, eight vehicles, and three pieces of heavy equipment. The net forfeiture proceeds totaled $1,238,000, which will be shared with local law enforcement agencies.

  • Glad to see who is profiting off this situation. I am curious who will the cops buy there marijuana from now that they busted the grower?? At least we no the cops down there got to line there pockets with all that money.... I do not see why these kinds of people are not sent to the federal governments marijuana facility to grow for the federal government?? We all know the federal government is growing pot or um marijuana. Why not make these "hardened criminals" work for the government? I hope all the readers out there know that America's DEA is a huge joke? I am sure the readers know this??
