Lottery transfers record $604 million to Oregon
by Bend Weekly News Sources

For the second consecutive fiscal year, the Oregon Lottery recorded over $1 billion in sales. With the close of fiscal year 2007 on June 30, unaudited results indicate the Lottery saw all-time record sales of $1.21 billion. As a result of these sales, an all-time high of $604 million of Lottery profits were transferred to the State for public education, economic development, state parks, and natural resources this fiscal year. Looking ahead, in the present biennium alone, the Lottery is projected to provide $1.4 billion for these programs.

The Lottery's previous high sales mark was reached in fiscal year 2006 with sales totaling $1.1 billion while the prior record transfer of $483.6 million to the State was also set in fiscal year 2006.

"From the Grants Pass area middle school principal's $5.4 million Megabucks win to the $182.7 million Powerball jackpot won by a player from Milwaukie, this past year has been an exciting one," said Lottery Director Dale Penn. "We couldn't have achieved the success we have without loyal players and the efforts of Lottery retailers across the state. For the current fiscal year, expect to see new games, new terminals, and more winners."

Some of the sales highlights during fiscal year 2007 include:

-         Video Lottery net sales of $865.2 million (53-week business year), new record

-         Sports Action with $14 million, new record

-         Fifteen of the top 20 all-time Lottery sales weeks were recorded during this past fiscal year

Since the Oregon Lottery began selling tickets on April 25, 1985, it has paid its players more than $13 billion in prizes. In that same period, the Lottery has earned over $5.4 billion for economic development, public education, state parks and watershed enhancements.
