JENIN, Gaza -- Israeli officials arrested an Islamic Jihad leader suspected of transporting a car bomb into Israeli amid broader actions in the West Bank.
Israeli military forces and Shin Bet officials on Wednesday announced the arrest of Salim Sayoud, 32, who allegedly tried to ferry the explosive into Israel in September 2002, calling the detention a "significant" action against Islamic Jihad, the Jerusalem Post reported Wednesday.
Israeli security forces allege Islamic Jihad was part of a broader plot behind the bombing of the Stage nightclub in Tel Aviv in 2005 and attacks targeting a shopping center in Netayna.
Israeli forces arrested four Palestinian militants in the West Bank Tuesday and apprehended another Palestinian for throwing stones at troops.
