MORETON, England -- A British woman is standing trial on charges she spiked her husband's drinks with antifreeze to cash in on life insurance to relieve family debts.
Kate Knight, 28, of Moreton, England, is charged with attempting to kill her husband, Lee Knight, 37, who is now deaf, blind and brain-damaged after suffering kidney failure, The Times of London said.
Prosecutors alleged the woman wanted to offset family debts by cashing in her husband's $98,739 life insurance policy, and said she researched overdosing using the drug Ecstacy or iron before settling on antifreeze, the paper said.
Kate Knight denied the charges.
