MAKHACHKALA, Russia -- A bomb targeting a lawmaker in his SUV in Dagestan's capital exploded Wednesday, sending two people to hospitals.
The bombing in Makhachkala targeted Gazi Gaziyev, a deputy of the Dagestan's People Assembly. He is also the regional railways chief, the Novosti news agency reported.
However, there were conflicting local reports as to whether Gaziyev and his driver were injured or whether it was two pedestrians as Itar-Tass reported.
The Russian province in the North Caucasus has experienced increasing violence in recent months associated with separatist rebels in neighboring Chechnya, reports said.
