Two Saskatchewan children freeze to death
by UPI

SASKATOON, Saskatechewan -- A northern Saskatchewan reservation was in mourning Thursday for two children found frozen to death after their father passed out while walking with them.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Christopher Pauchay was apparently walking his daughters, ages 1 and 3, to another house on the Yellow Quill First Nation reservation Tuesday in sub-freezing temperatures when he passed out, the Canwest News Service reported.

He was found and taken to a hospital but it wasn't until eight hours later he mentioned his children, the report said.

The 1-year-old's body was found hours later and the 3-year-old was found Wednesday.

The children's grandmother, Pearl Pauchay, said the girls belong to her 25-year-old son and his common-law wife.

"He was carrying them. But he was drinking and he must have blacked out," she said. "That's what he said when we went to visit him in the hospital."

Police haven't indicated if they will pursue criminal charges, the report said.
