WINNIPEG, Manitoba - An off-duty firefighter rescued a woman whose car fell onto a partially frozen river from a bridge in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Dale Kasper, a Winnipeg firefighter and volunteer for the East St. Paul department, said he saw the woman's Jeep-style vehicle lose control and skid to the side of the bridge, where it paused for a moment before falling nearly 100 feet onto the river below, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Tuesday.
Kasper said he exited his car and sprinted to where the car had landed on a frozen portion of the river. He kicked the window of the upside-down car and dragged the woman to safety. He said he performed CPR on the woman until paramedics arrived to take her to a hospital where she was admitted in critical condition.
