JERUSALEM - An Israeli airstrike Sunday reportedly killed at least three Palestinians and wounded 16 others in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
CNN reported another Palestinian was killed earlier in the day when Israel military personnel shot at "armed men approaching the forces" in eastern Rafah.
The Israeli military said in a statement that the airstrike was ordered against a group of Palestinian gunmen after they "approached the forces."
Palestinian security sources told the Palestinian Ramattan News Agency that Israeli drones fired two rockets near the Rafah border crossing connecting Gaza and Egypt.
The Israeli military told the Israeli newspaper Haaretz that the operation was aimed at militants firing rockets and mortars into Israel, CNN reported.
