Iraqi minister injured in roadside bombing
by UPI

BAGHDAD - An Iraqi government minister and two of his bodyguards have been wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in Baghdad.

Samir al-Attar, deputy Minister of Science and Technology, was driving through the eastern neighborhood of Zayouna when an explosion occurred near his two-vehicle convoy, the Kuwait News Agency KUNA reported Wednesday.

A drive-by shooting in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul Wednesday claimed the lives of four policemen and injured a woman and child, while in Diyala province at least six people were killed and 18 wounded in a suicide bombing at an outdoor market, police reported.

Police Col. Ragheb al-Omairi, a spokesman of Diyala military operation, said the attack happened in Muqdadiya and most of the casualties were civilians, CNN said.

CNN reported six dead in the incident while the BBC reported seven had died.

Three U.S. soldiers died in a roadside bomb explosion Wednesday, the military said in a statement.
