SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Clashes with police and scattered violence erupted Thursday after teachers in Puerto Rico went on strike, El Nuevo Dia reported online.
The Caribbean nation's 42,000 teachers walked off the job after talks on increased wages fell through.
There were reports of injuries to several people, including two police officers, during exchanges between strikers and authorities.
Puerto Rican officials said talks with the teachers would not resume until the striking educators returned to work.
