TISSI, Sudan - Sudanese officials said Wednesday the body of a missing French peacekeeper stationed in Chad was believed to have been found near the Chadian border.
The French sergeant, who was part of the European Union Force in Chad, went missing Monday during an errant incursion into Sudan, Afrik.com reported.
The Sudanese authorities notified the European forces in Chad that the body had been found. Official identification was ongoing, the news Web site reported.
EU Force officials have said the sergeant and a second soldier, whose names hadn't been released, unintentionally crossed from Chad a short distance into Tissi, Darfur, where they encountered hostile forces, Afrik.com said. The sergeant was killed and the other soldier wounded in the ensuing exchange of gunfire. A Sudanese soldier and a civilian also reportedly were killed.
