BAGHDAD -- At least 15 people died in Baghdad Thursday and 65 others were hurt when a car bomb blew up in a busy commercial area, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said.
The bomb went off in a parking lot in the Bab al-Shurj commercial area, CNN reported.
In another attack on a violent day, a suicide bomber set off a vehicle laden with explosives at the crowded Al-Tahreer Public Square in central Baghdad killing at least nine people, police said.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi Journalists Union said in a statement that a reporter with Al-Muwaten newspaper, Qassem Abdel Hussein Al-Uqabi, was killed Thursday by gunmen in central Baghdad.
Five members of Awakening Councils, local groups fighting insurgents, were killed in an al-Qaida attack in the troubled Diyala province, officials said.
Two people died and 10 others were injured in a roadside bomb explosion that targeted a U.S. Army patrol in the al-Amin region, al-Sumaria, the Iraqi satellite television network, reported Thursday.
