JERUSALEM - Israeli security forces Tuesday said they arrested two men carrying more than 70 pounds of pure heroin worth $8.6 million along the border with Lebanon.
The commander of the Israeli police force operating along the border with Lebanon, Ami Mualem, said the two men carried the heroin in backpacks, Haaretz said.
"This was the largest quantity of heroin ever captured on the northern border," Mualem said.
Police officials said the suspects had a history of drug related crimes and stressed they had no connection with a recent case involving an Israeli military officer who sold secrets to Hezbollah in exchange for drugs.
