TORONTO - For $30,000, fans of British royalty can purchase six love letters handwritten by Prince Charles 30 years ago to a Canadian woman in Montreal.
The eBay auction site is offering the letters on behalf of Alicia Carroll of the Everything Royal dealership in Los Angeles, which acquired them 10 years ago, the Toronto Star reported.
They were written to a woman named Janet, whom the Star said is Janet Jenkins, now a resident of Toronto. Born in Britain, she moved to Montreal when she was 18, became a Canadian and reportedly met Charles while working at the British Consulate.
In a Feb. 26, 1981, Star article, Jenkins said she knew Charles was engaged to Diana Spencer before it was publicized.
In one letter to her in 1980, Charles wrote he was under pressure to find a wife.
"I still think my solution of marrying a girl from each commonwealth country is the best one," the letter says.
There were no bids on the letters Friday morning.
