MECCA, Saudi Arabia - A young woman was arrested by police in Saudi Arabia after the Lexus she was driving crashed into another vehicle.

Police say the unidentified woman was attempting to evade capture for violating the kingdom's ban on women driving when the accident occurred, Arab News reported Friday.

"The woman tried to escape when she saw a police car and in the process hit another car, which was slightly damaged," said a police spokesman in Mecca.

The spokesman told Arab News the woman was handed over to the Prosecution and Investigation Commission.
