Street View images removed amid complaints
by UPI

LONDON -- A spokeswoman for Google said the technological company has removed images from its Street View service after receiving complaints in Britain.

The unidentified spokeswoman assured the public that Google created Street View, which allows people to get 360-degree views of certain global cities, with tools that allow offending images to be quickly removed, The Times of London said Friday.

"We put tools in place to allow people to remove images quickly and this shows that the technology works," she said. "The images have been removed, in many cases within hours."

Google had received numerous complaints from British residents Thursday shortly after the online service officially began serving the public in Britain.

Among the controversial images captured by Street View users were a man exiting a sex shop and another man vomiting in public.

The Times said similar embarrassing images were captured two years ago when Street View debuted in the United States.
