Train conductors attacked in Netherlands
by UPI

ALMERE, Netherlands -- Two train conductors have been violently attacked in the Netherlands by six unruly passengers, authorities say.

Police have arrested two suspects in the assault on the unidentified conductors at a train station in the Dutch city of Almere, Radio Netherlands/Expatica said Friday.

Thursday's attack occurred when the two conductors attempted to board a train at Almere Central Station in response to a report of misbehaving passengers.

But once the train stopped at the station, six unidentified male passengers attacked the conductors. The conductors, who reportedly didn't provoke the attack, were repeatedly punched and kicked before their assailants left the station.

One of the conductors was admitted to a hospital with serious facial injuries, while the other conductor's condition wasn't reported.

Similar acts of aggression have taken place on public transport in parts of the Netherlands.

Radio Netherlands/Expatica said 300 complaints regarding aggression toward bus drivers in the Netherlands have been registered with the Federation Dutch Labor Movement federation.
