GOTHENBURG, Sweden -- Police in Sweden say 37 people have been detained in the Balkan region as part of an investigation into an international drug ring.
Police told the The Local that "Operation Adam" in western Sweden also resulted in the seizure of 13 pounds of heroin, 26 pounds of cocaine and 66 pounds of amphetamines.
Those detained as a result of the law enforcement operation, which began in April 2008, were suspected of being involved in narcotics sales or smuggling.
An unspecified number of detained individuals have been convicted of related crimes, while four suspects have been forced to leave Sweden, The Local said.
Police in Sweden's Vastra Gotaland County have been coordinating the international law enforcement operation along with authorities in Germany, Serbia and the Netherlands.
The Local said other Swedish police forces also aided the anti-drug ring efforts as have Europol, Interpol and Nordic coordination officers.
